Giants Cave and Cheeky Monkeys

Having experienced the beautiful Lake Cave the day before we decided it was time for something a little more adventurous. We asked the ranger at our campsite  about fun things to do nearby and we were told all about Giants Cave, which was just down the road from Lake cave. We put on our trainers and made the short trip. We were greeted at a small shack, handed over our entry fee of $16 per adult. We were given helmets with headlights and torches and sent in the right direction after a short briefing.

Now, there's a few things I don't like in life, heights comes in at the top of the list, shortly followed by ladders and climbing...both care of number one. I also really don't like confined spaces and on school trips always bagged my way out of caving, tunnels on obstacle courses and the like. Another thing that makes my tummy turn is snakes, so when the ranger reminded me to keep a wide berth if I saw any on the short bush walk between the cave and base I almost threw my helmet back on the racking. I took a deep breath and said I'd do it...so off we went...

A little bit sarcastic but trust me I was pretty terrified at this stage
After a few twists and turns I realised I was pretty safe, and actually it was really fun...
I even bolted up the ladders and squished myself through tiny spaces

and by the end I was so excited, and happy that I'd pushed myself to do something I've never ever wanted to do.  I joked they might even get my abseiling next year (no). As a little treat we thought we'd head up to the Cheeky Monkey brewery, so back in the car it was for the 20 minute drive.

We ordered the mixed beer and cider tasting board and got to work

Where to start? Will I like any? (no I won't)

After we'd finished our tasting board and chips we had a little walk around the lake and then headed back to base for the evening. After about 5 minutes, no really, we thought we'd finish our day at the beach.

And then when we got back we heated up some food on the BBQ, cheers-d to the new year and new adventures and stargazed till we fell asleep.
