I joined a group of fashion, lifestyle and food bloggers for the evening to try out the new winter menu and enjoy an evening of comedy at their upstairs comedy club, Lazy Susans.
We started with a table covered in sharing food
We sat and chat about everything from our jobs to the local blogging scene, before deciding on our main courses. The menu is small but everything sounds awesome. If you're a veggo like me, or are intolerant of gluten, there's a separate menu available with a few more choices for you.
Everyone raved about the duck, including Danny boy, so if you happy to be in the area I'd recommend you give it a try. It definitely looked amazing laid on it's bed of kale, mushroom tortellini and porcini brodo. Incase you're not sure here it is from another angle...
Being the totally demure lady that I am I went for pizza. I love pizza, more than quite a lot of things, and I can honestly say it was pretty good.
And here's the Salmon served with beetroot carpaccio, seasonal greens and celeriac remoulade.
The evening was great, the staff were so attentive and great at recommending wines (the list is rather expensive) and beers to everyone. Before I knew it, and sadly before dessert, we were told the comedy show was about to start. Lazy Susan's comedy den is right on top of the bar, and they run shows every Tuesday, for up and coming acts (including first timers), Friday & saturday. There's more info here. Shapiro Tuesdays are just $5 which is amazing value for money.
I was pretty skeptical going in, but I was amazed by the talent of some of the guys performing. Obviously comedy is a super personal thing, so not everyone was for me- I made a record of not laughing once at one guy- but there was a great mix. I was probably most impressed by the young lad pictured above who's 18, he gave off a Lee Evans crossed with Michael McIntyre vibe and in my books that's pretty awesome. We left after the first two sections as our car parking ran out but we'll definitely be back for another comedy evening soon.
The Brisbane is open from 11:30, 7 days a week, at 292 Beaufort Street, Highgate.
Have you been to a local comedy club before? Where you impressed by the performers?
