Architects and heroes, Subiaco

I've wanted to visit Artchitects and Heroes in Subi ever since we moved to Perth but have never had the chance or when I have, I've been put off by the queues (which seem relentless but ,I now know, clear relatively swiftly). We managed to get a table within 15 minutes, but were sat elbow to elbow with other brunch go-ers on a 6 seater table on the pavement.

A perfect white coffee

I loved the table top gardens, a nice change from all the floral bouquets..

Dan already knew he wanted a fry up so spent a whole 20 seconds looking at the menu. When it arrived he looked pretty happy with himself, beautiful runny eggs, crispy bacon, sausages, beans...the works.

I went for the muesli bowl, which is more of an overnight oats / porridge affair but tastes absolutely incredible, it definitely killed my sweet tooth for the day without being entirely naughty.

The food was served fairly quickly after ordering, the staff were extremely pleasant and welcoming and promptly checked everything was okay after we'd had a chance to taste our food (I swear servers are doing this less and less these days?!). The quality of the food was brilliant, you know the kind of meal where each bite tastes as good, if not better, than the last? Two coffees and our two meals came in at $45 which is about on parr with most Perth brunches. Apart from the lack of space I can't fault the place, friendly staff, affordable, great coffee and great food!

Where's your favourite place for brunch?

Hot Chocolatte in Dunsborough is something out of a fairy tale, it's crazy in all the right ways.
This little cafe is renowned for decadent coffees, hot chocolates and iced everything. There's enough sweets, lollies and chocolates to excite any child (big or small) and the decor is absolutely incredible.

If you're ever anywhere near Dunsborough you need to pay them a visit, I can totally recommend the iced chai...and all the sweets...and lollies....and chocolates. My mouth is watering just thinking about it!

You can find them at shop 14/42 Dunn Bay Rd, Dunsborough.
Make sure you follow them on instagram and Facebook too.

Taste of Perth

A few weekends back I braved the horrible weather and head up to Perth for the second, annual taste of Perth festival. Despite, the terrible weather it was a great afternoon filled with delicious food and drinks and I was glad to see the rain didn't put everyone else off.

I was kindly gifted a press ticket, but we bought Dan his for $30 on the door. Inside the venue you use crowns instead of cash, and load your crowns onto a pay pass card. Each dollar equals one crown and dishes started at around 6 crowns, with the most expensive being around 30.

Graze through your dream tasting menu designed from a selection of over 50 tasting dishes crafted by Perth’s latest, greatest and hottest restaurants including el Público, Lalla Rookh, Nobu, Print Hall and many more, enjoy live entertainment, shop from artisan producers, and test your culinary skills in a host of exciting masterclasses. Taste of Perth in partnership with Electrolux is the essential event on Perth’s food and social calendar and with dishes starting from just 6 Crowns it’s an unmissable opportunity to celebrate Perth’s unique dining scene.

The winning ribs from El Publico

and mouth-watering doughnuts from Mary Street Bakery

Pig slider from Bib & Tucker

Solerno blood orange licquer, which was the perfect warm-me-up.

The wonderful staff handed out free ponchos for everyone which was amazing because my coat was far from water proof!

This reisling sorbet was to die for!

It was a great day, although I'm not going to lie, the weather really did ruin it a little bit! The event ended up being quite pricey, and crowns seemed to disappear quite quickly but it was such a unique experience, being able to have little dishes from all of Perth's top restaurants that I'd say it was totally worth it. My only suggestion is more variety for vegetarians & vegans!

Have you been to a food festival before? If you live in England I whole-heartedly recommend Christchurch food and wine festival  you've missed it next year but it's incredible.

Pixel Coffee, Leederville

I've visited a lot of blog and instagram worthy places lately, but none come close to Pixel Coffee in Leederville. Just a short drive from the CBD this new coffee house has quickly risen to instagram fame, and I'm sure you can see why. The staff are beyond knowledgable when it comes to coffee, in fact they hands down out coffee-d me, and I love coffee.

Dan went for the super smash and even he was blown away by the beautiful presentation. He grabbed his dinner away from my camera and quickly tucked in remarking 'these are the best eggs I've ever had' and then rambled on about not having discovered poaches eggs until we moved to Perth and how he wishes he'd had them in England, 25 years of missing out on poached eggs. He even ate the avocado, feta and all the greenery too.

I went for the acai bowl, I'm not going to lie it's probably 90% of the reason I chose to head all the way up to Perth for brunch. I fell in love with acai when I went to Brasil a few years back, and haven't found a good acai bowl since, but oh my god. This was clearly hand crafted by foodie angels and I haven't stopped thinking about it since. Honestly, if there's one thing you eat in Perth make it this.

Beautiful design, beautiful staff and beautiful food.

Pixel Coffee, I love you.
