Modo Mio, Italian at crown perth

As part of our incredible stay at Crown Perth we were treated to a meal at their Italian restaurant, Modo Mio. I have ridiculously high standards when it comes to Italian food, blame it on a mix of Italian blood and coming from a family who really love their food, so was excited to see what they had to offer...

We were greeted at the door and led through the restaurant to our table where we were given our menus. In true girl style I opened the cocktail list first and spent far too long deciding what I wanted, I finally decided on a Cherry blossom cocktail, a mixture of absolut citron, creme de cassis, cherry liquer, maraschino syrip and lime. It was quite honestly one of the best cocktails I've ever tried. Dan on the other hand went for a corona (later washed down with some scotch...cue anchorman jokes).

For our starters we shared some garlic bread (I was saving myself for the sweet) and Dan had Carpaccio with Cipriano sauce, rucola salad and parmesan cheese.

It took a long time to choose what we wanted for our mains, but with some guidance from the wait staff Dan selected the Pancetta wrapped rabbit porchetta with foie gras and herbs, polenta, pork rillettes and cacciatore sauce. The presentation was absolutely incredible and he said the taste was divine.

Modo mio

I was pleasantly surprised by the number of vegetarian friendly options on the menu, I chose the Mushroom rissoto with asiago cheese, smoked butter and truffle oil and it was incredible, so so rich and full of flavour.

I could quite easily have said 'one of everything' when it came to dessert, but decided to be less gluttonous and ordered Panna cotta with balsamic and basil strawberries, lemon curd and shortcrust crumble and Chocolate mousse, hazelnut meringue, kahlua cream and salted caramel ice cream for the pair of us to share.

Both of the dessert were absolutely out of this world, such beautiful textures and combinations of flavours. I need to give a special mention to the salted caramel ice cream, which was hands down the best salted caramel ice cream I've had in Australia.

The whole experience at Modo Mio was absolutely divine, I thoroughly enjoyed their modern twists on more classic Italian dishes, the service was impeccable and the atmosphere was great also. Modo Mio is the perfect place for a fancy date night, birthday or celebration and we both can't wait to return.

What's your favourite Italian dish? Have you eaten at Crown Perth before?

EAU de VIE, Westbourne

Eau de Vie in Westbourne is our favourite local restaurant by miles, in fact it's so good I've been debating if I should blog about them or not, but I'm being a good little blogger and spilling the gossip as really it's just too good to be kept a secret. Eau de Vie are self confessed foodies and liquor geeks and boy does it show, there's not a cosmo or sex on the beach or glitter bomb in sight. The produce is locally sourced and seasonal and you can tell that all the staff are passionate about where they work through their immaculate service.

We debated what to have for ages and after some recommendation from our waiter I went for a Ruby punch; a beautiful cocktail made using ceylon arrack, loose leaf breakfast tea and ruby port. You must know how much I love my cocktails by now?Well this one is definitely going on my list of favourites. Dan went for a pint of Estrella, a gorgeously light, smooth beer which washed down his main with ease.

For dinner I went for roast parsnip and fig tart with new potatoes and leafy greens and Dan went for the 8oz Barrel steak with mushroom sauce and chunky chips. Everything was cooked to perfection, my vegetables were mouthwatering and the pastry was crisp and light. Dans steak however was out of this world, it takes a lot to get me to admire meat but it was cooked beautifully it was juicy and succulent, it melted and crumbled in the mouth and was accompanied with light, fluffy centred chunky chips.

For pudding we shared strawberry cream profiteroles and a banoffee pie and I can't fault either.
Honestly, it was the best meal we've had out in a long, long time- If only my writing could do them justice.
